With just two weeks to go until "The Belly" makes its appearance, I was thinking about all the ways that the past nine months have affected my creativity. SO here's my list:- No more oil paintings. Can't stand the fumes and not good for baby.
- Less painting because my hands are getting symptoms like arthritis and I physically can paint using the same positions I used to (I tend to paint standing up or bent over on the ground)
- Spending more time thinking about my drawings. I tend to paint spontaneously. But now I have to "draw out" the process because I can't paint for hours at a time. So I tend to sketch my ideas and then return to them later.
- Patterns! I've always wanted to design patterns which I can use in my art and my interior designs. But I had never gotten round to doing them. Since I have to spend so much time in bed (swelling feet and hands, sore hips, the usual pregnancy niggles) I utilise those moments to create a pattern. It's harder than I thought.... but I'm getting better at it.
- Cloth: I'm no longer confining my base materials to gallery wrapped canvases. I have now expanding into wall hangings using various materials from jeans to cotton to linen. I'm even thinking about collages using scraps of cloth, beads and wire. This is all work in progress of course.
Those are the main things that have come to mind. No doubt, the arrival of mini LaRocque will spell more developments.
